Nitrous oxide is a kind of sedative that you can inhale. We place a mask over your nose and mouth, and then you inhale until the gas takes effect. It can be used on adults and children alike, and wears off quickly.
Nitrous oxide is not right for everyone. Especially anxious patients may need heavier sedation (general anaesthetic), and people with breathing problems may find it uncomfortable.
You can request nitrous oxide before any procedure, and your dentist will discuss with you whether sedation is appropriate
